Med början 2005 hålls vid KTH varje år Göran Gustafssonföreläsningar i matematik. Föreläsarna hör till de främsta i världen (i några fall mottagare av Fieldsmedaljen, matematikens ”nobelpris”). De tillbringar upp till en vecka vid KTH och ger då en inledande och mer populär föreläsning inom sitt forskningsområde följt av två specialiserade föreläsningar. Dessutom ges lokala matematikforskare möjlighet att träffa föreläsarna för informella diskussioner.
Vid Uppsala universitet hålls motsvarande Göran Gustafssonföreläsningar inom medicin.

Göran Gustafssonföreläsningar i matematik 2022 gavs av prof. June Huh, Princeton Univ. inom ramen för ett symposium med temat ”Algebraisk geometri”.
Göran Gustafssonföreläsningar i matematik 2021 gavs av Fields-medaljören Alessio Figalli (ETH, Zürich) 24, 25 och 26 maj. Titel för föredragen är ”Quantitative stability in geometric and functional inequalities”.

The 2019 Göran Gustafsson Lecture in Medicin was held in the form of a Göran Gustafsson Symposium Sept 12-13 with the title: New Horizons in Diabetes, and professor Bernard Thorens, Université de Lausanne as the key-note speaker.
